Renowned Colombian-born Chef Edgar Caro and co-owner Antonio Mata are the culinary masterminds behind Brasa. The evening will also showcase the outstanding wines of Viña Los Chanchitos, a family-owned boutique organic winery. Known for its commitment to quality over quantity, Viña Los Chanchitos embodies a deep love of family, culinary arts, and winemaking. The winery’s story, however, has roots far from its Colchagua Valley farm, beginning in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was in this vibrant city, synonymous with music, art, food, and drink, that Michael, a native, and Kathryn, a Californian, fell in love and eventually merged their passions to create Viña Los Chanchitos.
Guests will have the unique opportunity to meet and dine with Al DeRose, the talented winemaker of Viña Los Chanchitos. Born and raised in San Jose, Al DeRose joined the family winemaking business with the founding of DeRose Vineyards in 1988. His adventurous spirit led him to central Chile, where he has served as the consulting winemaker at Viña Los Chanchitos since 2020. Nestled in the Santa Ana area of the Colchagua Valley, the winery is perfectly situated for cultivating both white and red grapes comparable to those of the renowned Rhône wine region. Al DeRose’s dedication to organic farming and meticulous grape cultivation has been a driving force behind the winery’s success.

Viña Los Chanchitos, a family-owned organic winery from Chile, had an epic win at the New Orleans Wine and Food Experience (NOWFE) in June 2023 [1: https://vlcwines.com/]. In their first ever entry into an international wine competition, their GSMc Red Blend 2021 won a gold medal [4: https://www.nowfe.com/wine-competition].
The GSMc Red Blend is a blend of Grenache, Shiraz, and Mourvèdre grapes. It is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, which gives it a rich and complex flavor profile. The wine is described as having notes of blackberry, plum, and spice, with a smooth finish.
The NOWFE is a premier event in the New Orleans culinary scene, showcasing the city’s best food and wine. The wine competition is particularly prestigious, with judges from all over the world.
